The Ministry of Higher Education was established by Royal Decree No. 236/1 on 8/5/1395 AH (1975 AD) to implement the Kingdom's higher education policy. Under this decree, the Minister of Higher Education is responsible for implementing the government's policy in the field of university education.
University education has received generous support through the establishment of new universities and applied colleges, along with significant budget allocations. This has increased the number of universities in the Kingdom to 27 public universities, 36 private universities and colleges, and 25 institutes distributed geographically across the Kingdom's regions, offering scientific and applied specializations in various fields. The Ministry of Higher Education has also adopted modern trends in scientific research and future planning.
